今日は、半紙に書く際に使用する筆の選び方をご紹介します。

通販で検索する際のキーワードは、次の5語です。
筆　 4号　 兼毫　初心者 　中鋒

一つずつ言葉を解説してゆきます。
①筆は、そのまま筆です。
②4号とはサイズのことです。直径9㎜程度です。もうちょっと大きめの筆の方が良い方は3号（直径11㎜）でも良いです。
③兼毫とは、柔らかい毛と硬い毛、混合ということです。硬い毛は、弾力があるので、元の形に戻りやすく、中央に使われています。柔らかい筆は、弾力は無いのですが、ソフトな線質を演出してくれるので、筆の外側に使われています。
➃初心者 とは、そのままズバリです。初心者用の筆は、値段はそれほど高くないはずです。
⑤中鋒とは、毛の長さです。短すぎても長すぎても初心者には扱いにくいですから、中くらいのものを選びます。

これまで、沢山の筆を使ってみて、馬喰町の四宝堂さんの「雅人」が一番使い勝手が良いのでお勧めです。でも、今は行けません。通販サイトも無いようです。

価格は2000円程度で良いと思います。
違うお店のものを何本か買って試すのも楽しいです。

Today I’m going to show you how to choose a brush to use when writing on Hanshi paper, Japanese calligraphy paper.

The following five keywords are used in a mail order search.

I’ll explain the words one by one.
①筆: The brush is a brush as it is.
②4号: No. 4 means size. It is about 9mm in diameter. If you want to use a larger brush, you can also use a No. 3 brush (11 mm in diameter).
③兼毫: Kengo means soft hair and hard hair, a mixture. hard hair is used in the middle because it is bouncy and easy to return to its original shape. Soft hair are used on the outside of the brush because they don’t have any elasticity, but they create a soft line quality.
➃初心者: Beginner is exactly what it sounds like. A beginner’s brush shouldn’t cost as much.
(5)中鋒: It’s mean middle length of the hair. Too short or too long can be difficult for beginners to handle, so choose a medium one.

I’ve used many brushes so far, and I recommend “雅人（Gajin)” from Shihodo in Bakurocho because it’s the most user-friendly. But we can’t go now. There seems to be no mail order site either.

It’s fun to buy a few brushes from different stores and try them out.

高いからと言って、自分に合うモノとは限りません。
だからといって、安すぎますと、安かろう悪かろうになります。

さまざま、筆屋さんのサイトには、筆に関するうんちくが書かれています。勉強になりますので、是非、読んでみてください。

The photo is a beginner’s brush that I have in my hands. These are just a few. There are many more to come. Each one is slightly different in terms of usability.

Just because it’s expensive doesn’t mean it’s the right thing for you.
But, if it is too cheap, I think there are no good thing.
