さて、今日は、時の鐘です。
Well, today is the bell of time which was used for telling what time it was for commoner during Edo period, about 300 years ago.
時の鐘は、江戸時代に庶民に時間を知らせる時計でした。
The time bells were clocks to inform the common people about the time in the Edo period.
まず、捨て鐘を３つうち、その後に、実際の時間の数だけ鐘を打っていました。
夜中は、鐘の音はしません。
朝から夕方まで、2時間おきに、
鐘番の方が、打っていました。
During Edo era, people heard three bells at first, then bells for the actual number of hours.
No bells were heard in the middle of the night.
From morning till evening, every two hours,
The bell number was struck.
このような時の鐘は、最初は日本橋に作られました。
徐々に、江戸のサイズが大きくなるにつれ、
他の場所にも置かれるようになって行きます。
9つ程度、置かれていたと言われています。
At first such bells were made in Nihonbashi, near from Edo castle, now Imperial palace.
Gradually, as the size of Edo town became larger,
It will be placed in other places as well.
It is said that about 9 pieces were placed.
有名な時の鐘といえば、
上野と浅草。
Speaking of famous bells,
Ueno and Asakusa.
「花の雲、鐘は上野か浅草か」
芭蕉句
芭蕉さんもこんな句を残していますね。
“Flower clouds, Which bell, Ueno or Asakusa?”
This is Mr.Basho’s famous poem.
上野の鐘は、精養軒の入り口付近、
浅草の鐘は、浅草寺の宝蔵門を右に進んだ突き当りにあります。
Ueno’s bell is near the entrance of “Seiyo Ken”, a famous western restaurant.
The bell of Asakusa is right side of Hozo Gate of the Asakusa Temple.
ちなみに、当時、上流階級の方々はと言いますと、
将軍や大名は、高価な時計を持っています。
本物の時計をご覧になりたい場合は、谷中の大名時計美術館に行ってみてくださいね。
江戸城内は、太鼓で時間を知らせてました。
By the way,
at that time, Edo period,
Shogun and Daimyo, people in the upper class, have an expensive watch.
If you want to see real watches, please go to the Daimyo Clock Art Museum in Yanaka.
In Edo castle, time was informed with a drum.
現代のように、1人1人が時計を持てるというのも、
江戸時代の方々からすると、ビックリなことなんですね。
Today, each commoner can have watches,
it is surprising thing for people in the Edo era.
