How are you?

Thank you for always reading this blog.

Well, today is a story about a little Buddha statue, in Tsukuda island.

Tsukuda island is the place where fishermen who emigrated from Osaka lived.

Ieyasu, the founder of the Edo Period, made fishermen move to Tokyo from Osaka, because he wanted to eat favorite fish when creating the town of Edo, Tokyo’s old name.

The fishermen permitted to live in Tsukuda.

But Tsukuda was a shallow sea.

At that time, it was not land.

They reclaimed the shallow seas themselves,

They created a place to live and a dockyard to stop their boats.

They made land and houses by themselves, so they can not make big ones.

They built their very small houses in very small spaces.

So, even now, the houses are dense.

So, even now, firefighting training is done with everyone in the neighborhood.

The relationship of the neighborhood is cherished even now.

If they did not protect their boats, they were able to be broken by storms.

So, they made two islands, and they stopped their boats in the middle the islands.

The small Tsukuda bridge is connecting these two islands.

Therefore, it seems to have been here from the beginning.

Now,

On such an artificial island, trees did not grow initially.

People brought and planted trees on the island.

They planted and planted, but most of trees did not grow up as a result of sea breeze.

In such a situation, a long-lived tree appeared.

If the tree lives 100 years, the people thought,

“this  must be because a divine exist in this tree.”

And, “I hope my child as well grows up like  this tree.”

And this Buddha statue was made.

This is sitting at the root of the ginkgo tree which grew big.

Because it is a little island,

There are homes to the base of the tree.

So, in order to go to see him,  you shoud enter a very narrow alley.

A big ginkgo and a small stature  are carefully worshiped in a small space in the alley.

Thank you very much for reading to the last.

Have a nice day today.
