今日は、幕末の星、勝海舟です。
成人してから晩年まで過ごした赤坂を歩いてきました。
Today’s topic is the star of the Bakumatsu, last of 19C, Mr. Kaisyu Katsu.
I walked in Akasaka where Mr.Kattsu lived.
１．長屋住まい。勝海舟の新婚時。cheep apartment,
新婚当初は、長屋住まい。
In the beginning of the newlyweds, little space.
現在は、カラオケ店。
Currently, karaoke shop.
熱心に武術や蘭学をこちらで勉強されていたんですね。
座禅もこのころに始めたんだそうです。
Eagerly studied martial arts and meditation here.
その後の歴史の大舞台での胆力の元は、この時期に培っていたのかもしれません。

２．出世に従い、住居の海抜も上がって行く。坂の途中の家

神戸で海軍の学校を指揮していたころのお宅。
This place was a house when Mr.Katsu was directing a naval school in Kobe.
ここに住居を構えていたころに、
坂本龍馬とも出会い、
あの江戸城無血開城の西郷隆盛との会見がありました。

聞けば、尊王攘夷だった坂本龍馬は、勝海舟を殺すつもりで会ったとか。
そんな坂本龍馬を一度会っただけで魅了してしまった勝海舟。
Mr. Ryuma Sakamoto met him with the intention of killing him.
But, Mr.Katsu fascinated Mr.Sakamoto Ryoma .
国内で分裂して、結局イギリスの植民地となったインドを見て、
日本が同じ布石を踏まぬように、
日本全体の利益を考えて、
海軍の重要性を説いた勝海舟。
Mr.Katsu learned from India, where eventually became a British colony, after breaking up in the country.

Mr.Katsu preached the importance of the navy.
坂本龍馬は、この視野の広さに男気を感じたのでしょうか。

まさに、歴史の大舞台を駆け抜けた時に過ごした場所。
It was exactly the place he spent when he ran through the big stage of history.
誰を信じていいのか分からない状況の中で、
信じられるのは自己の中にある信念のみ。

その信念も、時には揺らぐこともあったろうと思います。
裏切られることもあったと思います。
I think that the belief was sometimes shaken.
I think that it was betrayed also.
グラグラする状況の中で、
悩みながら過ごした場所ではないかと思います。

坂の上には、氷川神社。
おそらく、何度となく脇の先道を上がり、自問自答しながらお参りした場所ではないかと思いました。

３．丘の上の大邸宅 A mansion on a hill
晩年を過ごしたのは、丘の上の大邸宅。
現在は、港区民の憩いの場所として利用されています。
It was the mansion on the hill that he spent his later years.

乗り越えたからこそ手に入れた、丘の上からの清々しい景色。
どんな思いで新しい明治維新の時代を眺めていたのでしょう。

勝海舟、幕末の英雄として何度も耳にしてきた御名前です。
「すごい人なんだろうなぁ」
とは思っておりましたが、
正直なところ、どのくらいスゴイのか、全く実感がわかずにおりました。
Mr. Katsu kaishu, it is the name I have heard many times, the hero of the last days of the Edo period.
I guessed it’s a wonderful person.
To be honest, I did not realize how special he was.
が、
歩いて、お話をうかがいながら実感するっていうのは違いますね。
ほんの2時間の間に、すっかり勝海舟ファンになりました。
But,
during the walking,
only two hours,
I became a fa of Mr.Katsu.
