さて、今日は、清水の舞台。
京都ではありません。
上野です。
Well, today’s topic is the stage of Kiyomizu.
It is not Kyoto.
This is Ueno, Tokyo.
清水観音堂は寛永寺の敷地内に建てられました。
寛永寺は、後に将軍が埋葬される菩提寺になっていたお寺です。
いわば、増上寺と並んで、江戸城の権威の象徴ともいえる、大きなお寺でした。
Ueno Park was once a temple called Kaneiji temple.
In order to protect Edo shogunate military government from evil spirit ,
The temple was established northeast of the Edo castle in the early Edo period,
It is a temple that became a Bodaiji temple where Shogun, the head of military government were buried.
In other words, it was a big temple which can be said as a symbol of the authority of Edo military government..
このお寺を作るために尽力したのが天海和尚。
天海和尚は、江戸幕府の権威が確立するためのブランドづくりのために、
京都を模して、寛永寺をつくりました。
It is Mr.Tenkai, a Buddhist priest, to have made an effort to make this temple.
Mr. Tenkai imitated Kyoto for the making of brand for authority of the Edo Shogunate military government,
established and organized Kanei-ji Temple.
そして、もう一つ、
庶民から愛される場所をつくり、庶民からの人望も獲得しようとしました。
この考え方は、他の幕府の方々に理解されず、
お金を出してもらうことができなかったそうです。
それで、天海上人は、私財をなげうって、庶民のための場所を作ったと言われています。
その場所が、清水の舞台。
この建物は、戦災を潜り抜け、江戸時代の姿をそのまま残しています。
使用されている材木を調べると、
一般的に寺社で多く使われるヒノキ材だけでなく、
いろんな種類の木が使われているとのことです。
おそらく、天海和尚が、苦労して集めた材木なのではないかと思います。
And another,
he tried to attract common people and win popularity by making enjoyable places for common people.
This way of thinking was not understood by other member of government,
That’s why he was unable to get money form government to make this Kiyomizu Kannon Do temle.
Therefore, it is said that Mr. Tenkai has made places for the common people by using personal property.
This building has survived WWⅡ damage, leaving the figure of the Edo period.
Examining the used timber of this building,
Usually, hinoki cypress commonly used in temples and shrines,
It is said that various kinds of trees are used for this temple.
江戸時代、変わった形の松があって、
浮世絵にも描かれました。
There was a pine tree of the strange form in the Edo era,
It was drawn on the ukiyoe wood block print.
現代でも、復元された松が
植えられています。
The pine which was restored, is planted now.
松の枝を覗くと、弁天堂が見えます。
You can see Benten Do temple inside of the circle of branches of the pine.
この絵には、彰義隊と新政府軍の戦いが描かれています。
その時に使用された砲弾も一緒に飾られています。
A fight in 1868, between Shogi corps, a military government troop, and the new government troop is described in this painting.
Cannonballs which was used during this fight are displayed on this picture.
この清水の舞台、今でも多くの方々の楽しい場所です。
This stage of Shimizu is still a fun place for many people.
人形供養もしてくれます9月25日です。
It is September 25 that will provide a puppet festival.
This temple holds a memorial service for dolls which became unnecessary.
最近では、的に向かって願い玉を投げるという願い玉もできました。

Recently, we have also been able to throw wish balls towards the direction.
