さて、今日は、上野公園の西郷さん。
西郷さんは、東京の3代銅像の一つです。
3代銅像は次の三つ。
１．上野公園の西郷さん
２．皇居外苑の楠木正成
３．靖国神社の大村益次郎
これら3つの銅像は、
第二次世界大戦中の金属供出もされず、今にも残されています。
Well today, Saigo at Ueno Park.
Mr. Saigo is one of the three bronze statues in Tokyo.
Three bronze statues are as follows.
1. Mr. Saigo at Ueno Park
2. Masanari Kusunoki of the Imperial Palace Garden
3. Yasukuni Shrine Omura Masujiro
During WWⅡ,
Japanese government corrected Metal which was used for statues and big bells in temples.
These metal was used for bullet and cannonball.
But, These statues were survived WWⅡ, and we can see still now.
さて、西郷さんに戻ります。
西郷さんの像、
他の明治時代の像と比べると、ラフすぎやしませんか？
西郷さんといえば、陸軍大将もされた、えらい軍人です。
なぜ、軍服でないのか。
なぜ、馬ではなく犬を連れているのか。
このあたりの疑問は、いずれブログに書きたいと思います。

この像が、西郷さんが何をしようとしているところか、
誰が創ったのか、

まず、西郷さん、大好きな犬のツンちゃんをつれて、

次に、制作者はどなたかと申しますと、
2人の合作です。
西郷さんは、高村光雲先生、
ツンちゃんは、楠木正成の馬を作った後藤貞行先生です。
後藤先生は、馬が得意だったそうで、ツンちゃんの足をよく見ると、足が馬っぽいというご意見もチラホラ。
Next, the authors were two person.
Parts of Mr.Saigo was made by Mr. Koun Takamura, professor of Tokyo University of Arts,
Tsun, the dog was made by Mr. Sadayuki Goto who made the horse of Mr. Kusunoki Masami’s statue.

では、西郷さん、本物の西郷さんに似ているのでしょうか？

と生前の西郷さんと面識のある方々が、おっしゃっていたそうですが、
西郷さんの親戚、お友達にデッサンを見てもらって、
できるだけ本物に近いように作ったそうです。

像にベタベタと貼られたそうです。
ここに来れば、再会できるかもしれない、と期待させる場所なんですね。
人を愛した西郷さん、
今も昔も、愛されてるんですね。
